Your turf lawn has probably seen a lot of action since you put it in, saving you buckets of time and cash that you didn’t have to blow on regular grass upkeep. This means you’ve had extra to splurge on cool stuff like epic backyard BBQs, swanky patio sets, a sweet swing set, or even a pool. But, you might’ve caught your turf looking a tad squished after all that fun.

Turf Looking Flat?

As durable and versatile as turf lawns are, activity that would easily kill natural grass and cause bald spots can cause turf to become flattened and lose some of its soft, natural appearance. It takes quite a lot of traffic to flatten turf fibers, but constant transit on artificial turf and frequent heavy activity like sports, pets, or children may take a toll. Placing heavy items on the turf, such as pools, furniture, or heavy flower pots will also flatten your turf fibers. This is why periodic maintenance is very important in order to keep your turf standing upright.

Regardless of what you do, artificial grass can start to bend and droop over the years. Don’t fret! It’s pretty easy to get them back into an upright position and looking fresh and bright. Make sure you can enjoy your artificial turf for years by performing routine maintenance to keep it in top condition. It’s easy to clean, groom, and maintain turf by following some simple procedures.

If you’re looking to fluff and shine your turf to impress the neighbors, prepare a home for sale, or to sell a home fast then you’ve come to the right place! Brushing Turf How to Groom Turf How to Fluff Up Artificial Grass

How to Groom Artificial Turf

Artificial turf requires some light grooming from time to time to keep it looking good and ensure that it’s safe for people and pets to walk or play on. Specifically, grooming keeps the turf fibers upright and the infill evenly distributed. Grooming and cleaning boils down into several important steps.

Brushing Turf

If your turf is not standing upright, start brushing it as often as needed to keep the fibers up. Get yourself a brush with synthetic bristles that run about five inches long, and make sure not to use wire or metal bristles, as these might damage your fibers. Raking or brushing your artificial grass lawn redistributes the blades so that they will wear more evenly and last longer. Keeping the fibers upright will also make your yard look more like natural grass.

Once you’ve brushed, rinse the area with water. Then rake one more time. Rinse and repeat every three or four weeks, and you’ll see pretty nice results.

Turf Defibrillation How to Fluff Artifical Grass Grooming Turf Turf Factory Direct

Turf Defibrillation

Defibrillation is kind of like its counterpart in medicine–intense. Find yourself a power broom specifically designed for artificial turf. You can use other brooms, but it’ll take longer and you’ll get a different result. Defibrillating with your power broom will give you straight, even-looking grass, and on top of all that, power brooms clean as well. It’s only necessary once or twice a year, but you’ll see good results.

Rinsing & Cleaning Turf

Dust, leaves, and dirt can build up on your turf surface. In order to prevent these buildups from occurring, spray down your turf every week. Keep in mind that you might need to do so more often if you live in a dry, dusty area.

Artificial grass fibers, while resilient, can be damaged by pressure washers. Avoid using them. A regular garden hose will do the trick just fine to rinse dow the turf.

If your pet is regularly heading out to do their business on the artificial grass, regular cleaning every week is necessary. Removing pet waste on a regular basis is essential. This keeps your turf smelling fresh and prevents it from getting filled with germs from pet waste. Urine will be absorbed and drained away with rain, but if your pets are using the same spot, it can become a hotbed for bacteria.

You can fix this by washing the yard down regularly, or getting a mixture of vinegar and water for a quick spray down. Scoop and dispose of the matter, then spray the area with a hose. For urine, spray the affected areas with a hose and consider using turf deodorizer, or artificial grass enzyme cleaner or antimicrobial turf cleaner.

Loosening Turf Infill

If the infill becomes compacted or too loose, you’ll need to do a little grooming to keep the fibers in good shape.  Your power broom can help with this, but aerating with a rake is a great way to level it. This should only be done up to three times per year to avoid too much damage.

Adding Turf Infill

After a while, turf can lose some of its infill. Periodically spreading a fresh layer can help keep turf upright and springy. Maintaining the infill levels by making sure they are even and not too low also helps keep your turf upright.
